Lupin III - First Series Episode 5

The Coming of Goemon the Thirteenth

This is the episode where we finally meet Goemon. And right off he displays that he can survive those treacherous times in life when huge axes fly at you and heavy weights drop from above. (I hate when that happens. It always ruins the whole day...)

Lupin is sporting stunning glasses, his only disguise as he casts himself as "executive producer of Hero Productions" there to "bring heroes together" for events. (Cue that magical bringing heroes together music.) And Jigen is with him as the American gunman who wants to challenge Goemon. Goemon goes along with it and ends up blocking all of Jigens bullets. Lupin and Jigen then look kind of scared, as they should be. (Little did they know that years later they would be hanging around with Emo Goemon.)

It then cuts to Lupin talking to Goemon about the sword. Goemon is kind enough to tell us the history of the sword (It cuts whole buildings in half, isn't that good enough?) and then he says he wants to kill Lupin with the sword. The problem is that he doesn't know what Lupin looks like. (Okay....) Lupin laughs at this, getting Goemon angry. In his angerness, he slices a deer head off the wall. (Issues, much?)

Fujiko enters to ruin things. Again! This time she's posing as Goemon's girlfriend. (Wow, he's normal in the first series...) Lupin yells something to get Goemon to run out of the room, wanting to talk to Fujiko and asking her what she's after.

And then it's Jigen's turn to ruin things as he runs in and yells out "Lupin!" and says how Goemon will eventually figure everything out and that they should leave. (He will? Really? With you screaming out Lupin's name? Who would have thought...)

The two run off, not getting far as they face a piece of paper, "I'll kill you" written on it. (Goemon's so subtle...) They freeze and Goemon is there, saying how he knew who Lupin was the whole time. (Yeah, sure he did.) We then learn that someone hired Goemon to kill Lupin.

Goemon counts to three, the two standing still, lifting up a mat or something when Goemon gets to three. They are then chased, Jigen jumping over a wall while Lupin stays to fight.

The two talk way too much and then Lupin tosses a jar at Goemon, who slices at it, the liquid splashing on him and catching him on fire. Lupin says how it's a new rocket fuel that ignites when it mixes with oxygen. (Oh yeah, that sounds safe.)

Goemon burns while Lupin runs away. But before he can make an escape Goemon pulls out a rope and flings it at Lupin, the rope wrapping around him and catching him on fire as well.

Jigen informs Lupin that a famous killer, Momochi, is still alive and that his student is Goemon.

(This episode jumps around a lot.) Momochi rushes up to a building where Goemon sits and listens to some weird radio show or something that he seems to enjoy a little too much. A fight ensues as the lights go out, Goemon holding his sword to Momochi's throat when he turns the lights back on. The two then ramble, Goemon gets scolded, and the radio gets cut in half. (What did it do?? How mean...)

Lupin and Jigen are somewhere listening to the same radio show Goemon was listening to. (Is that normal or something?) Fujiko then wanders in, looking all pitiful, saying how she escaped from the lecherous perverted Goemon. Lupin isn't too pleased to hear that, rambles on, and then Fujiko basically says she'll sleep with him if he gets rid of Goemon. (Some incentive...)

Lupin drives to a spot Fujiko said was his hideout and Goemon is there and he starts yelling at Lupin about how Lupin is a pervert. Lupin yells back about Goemon being a pervert. A light shines on them and lots of explosions ensue as Momochi shoots rockets towards them, wanting both Lupin and Goemon to die.

He is then somewhere else giving Fujiko her fee, suddenly sensing Goemon underneath him. He then comes up with some lame thing where a computer told him that his two greatest threats were Lupin and Goemon and how he was afraid.

More talking happens and Goemon attacks, but Momochi takes Fujiko hostage and escapes...in a hot air balloon. Which Lupin then shoots. Explosions! (Insert lame Team Rocket joke here)

Goemon is angry and goes after Lupin, who says how he has come to like Goemon, but the two fight anyway. More explosions and death and carnage ensue. Oh yeah, sure, there were no deaths from that massive pileup on the freeway....right....

Goemon then says he'll kill Lupin next time.

Lines I liked: I'm normal and other Japanese are screwed up. (Goemon, after Lupin says he's unusual to be so young and be a true samurai)

I'd love to send you flowers for that. Thanks so much. (Lupin, after Goemon talks about the whole three second thing)

Stop moo mooing, you sound like a cow. (Jigen, when Lupin is "mau"ing in pain after he was burnt)
